Almost Spring

The weather is finally starting to get warmer here. This winter wasn’t really that bad though. There wasn’t much snow, and not many polar vortex days if any. Spring and fall tend to be the time of year when I get sick though. Whenever the weather starts changing, my body has trouble adapting. Most recently, I got another cold that lasted almost a week. I ended up having to visit the doctor because I came down with pink eye. That’s not an experience I’ve ever had before, and it’s been a struggle for me not rub my eyes because they’re irritated. The antibiotic eye drops I received though seem to be doing the job.

In happier news, I got hired full-time at my job. I’m no longer a temp or contractor which is exciting. I’m going to start receiving benefits. Hopefully now I can put some more energy into making some of my other goals happen. I’ll have some PTO time to travel which is high on my list. I might even be able to move out. We’ll see what happens!

A New Year

Howdy everyone! It’s officially a new year!

I know normally a lot of people would reflect on the previous year in a post like this, but I feel like I’ve done that enough on this blog already. 2016 definitely had some rough moments for me, so I’ve decided to try and think my way into some positive juju for 2017. I’m hoping that this new year will see me accomplish some of the things I’ve been meaning to do for a while.

Some of those things I’ve been meaning to do for a while are as follow.

  • Get a passport
  • Travel somewhere new
  • Have only one job
  • Move out

Those are pretty much my main goals for the year. I of course have other smaller goals in mind but I haven’t really thought them out very far yet. Stay tuned to find out if I actually complete them.

Until next time!

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I hope you are all finding some time to relax and be with your loved ones. I myself am thankful that I get to spend some times with my parents since my mom will be having surgery tomorrow. This is the first Thanksgiving in four years where I haven’t had to go into work. This Thanksgiving, I’m trying to do more reflecting on the things I’m thankful for. This past year has had some rough moments, and I need to do better on reflecting on the good aspects of my life. I’m very thankful for my friends and family who have been there for me and held me up when I was down. I don’t often tell them how much I appreciate them, but I hope they know it. I’m also thankful for the job I currently have. There was a time when I wasn’t sure I would find somewhere to work where they treat me as more than a number on the page, but this one seems like a pretty good one. I hope that you all remember to be thankful for your blessings.

Until next time!

Another Year of Living Down

Well, I’m another year older today. I think I’m officially part of the late twenties crowd now? Does 27 count? It’s not terribly exciting to turn another year older once you hit your mid twenties. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on this past year of my existence. It’s been a rough one for the books. I got a new job and then proceeded to lose said new job. I now have another new job though that seems to be a better fit for me, so maybe everything worked out of the best in that department.

As you’ve already heard, I started volunteering at a raptor center. I’ve been wanting to do that for a while, so it’s cool to finally have done it. I love working with the birds, and the people are great too. I still volunteer at a parrot rescue as well. Maybe this next year will see me doing something else with animals though. I’m not sure I can find the time to fit another activity into my schedule though.

My birthday itself is going well so far. My new coworkers wrote me a nice card, and decorate my desk with feathers. Aside from the fact that I will be finding feather pieces in my desk for the next several months, it looked great. I definitely wasn’t expecting them to have put in so much work.

I’m ending my day by watching We Bought a Zoo. It’s definitely in the running for one of my favorite movies. The characters in the movie are basically living my dream life. I always find it motivating, and I figured it would be a good way to begin another year of living.

I hope this finds all of you well!

Time Flies

It’s hard to believe that it’s already October. Summer is officially over, and it’s time for fall. I feel like I haven’t accomplished much recently. The little amount of time that I am home is usually spent catching up on sleep. I’m still working two jobs. The consistently busy schedule has not caused me any more recurring health problems which is always good.

I’m still busy volunteering. Things at the raptor center are going well. We’ve gotten a couple of new birds. I’m still learning new things every time I go. Last week, I learned how to cope the birds. Coping is the process of trimming the beak and talons. I was a little nervous, but I did not draw any blood which made me pretty happy. In the next couple of weeks, I will be leading a volunteer group in doing more cleanup at the new facility. It’s kind of exciting to get to participate in an organization as it’s building from the ground level.

That’s pretty much all that’s going on with me. Nothing else much has changed in my life.

Til next time!

Pedal to the Metal

Hey everyone!

I meant to update this more frequently but life has been pretty hectic. I now have one full-time job and one part-time job so I work about 50 hours a week, sometimes more. I like my full-time position for the most part. I think it will offer me a lot more opportunities than my previous position. I work in member services for a company that buys groceries for smaller chains around the country. Everyone there has been very kind and helpful so far which is always a plus. I am technically a temp there right now but I hope to be converted to an actual employee in the near future.

I still volunteer at the parrot rescue, but I have dropped the frequency down to about every other week right now. After I started my new position, I didn’t go for almost two months while I adjusted to my schedule. I missed the birds a lot. I like to think that they missed me too. Daisy got on my shoulder and rested his head on my cheek. Considering that he tends to bite everyone else, I think that’s pretty cool.

Earlier this year, I also started volunteering a local raptor center. It’s been on my list of things to try for a few years now, and I really like it. We just expanded to a new facility, and it’s amazing. It’s been a while since I’ve felt so optimistic and energized about something. There’s a lot of work to do there to get it ready for all of our plans, but it’s a big step in the right direction for the center.

All of these things in addition to trying to have a social life mean that I have a lot going on most days. It was getting pretty bad for a few weeks. It got to the point where I was getting physically ill every few days due to lack of sleep. I think I finally got that under control though. I haven’t been violently sick in several weeks now. I often wish I had some more free time to myself to get projects done around the house. I’ve been saying no a little more frequently to events that require a half a day’s a more commitment. I need some time to make sure that I’m taking care of myself.

That pretty much sums up my life as is right now. More updates to come. Peace out everyone!

Oak Leaf

Welcome back to my blog!

That goes as much as to me as to anyone reading this. It’s been a while since I last posted here. I’ve been working on this update on and off for almost a year. A lot has certainly changed since the last time I posted here. I’ve changed jobs twice. I started volunteering at a raptor center. I went to another state on my bucket list.

I called this theme Oak Leaf. All of my blog designs are named after different types of trees. I found it appropriate considering the name of my blog.

I’ve never been good at talking about myself, but look forward to my attempt at more frequent updates!
